Biography

Louis G. Perez has a Ph.D. in modern Japanese history from the University of Michigan, and Bachelor and Masters degrees in history from California State University Long Beach. He is the author of several books on Japanese and Asian history including Japan Comes of Age: Mutsu Munemitsu and the Revision of the Unequal Treaties (1999), Mutsu Munemitsu and Identity Formation of the Individual and the State in Modern Japan (2001), and Daily Life in Premodern Japan (2002). Additionally, he teaches courses on East Asian history and women in Japanese history.
