BiographyOren Whightsel is a Ph.D. candidate in English Studies at Illinois State. He received his Masters degree in American Studies/Humanities and a Women’s Studies graduate certificate from the University of South Florida. He is currently at work writing his dissertation Hearing the Voice First, Later the Name: Queer(ed) Poetics, the Rhetorics of Failure, and the Reparative Practice of Feminism. Oren’s research interests combine the study of rhetoric and feminism with queer(ed) subjectivity, critical race theory, postcolonialism, Diaspora, and issues of embodiment, trauma, and gender across various cultures and texts. He is also specializing in the work of Toni Morrison and Audre Lorde. Oren teaches the introductory course WGS 120: Women, Gender, and Society and ENG 128: Gender in the Humanities. He lives in Bloomington, Illinois with his two cats: Max and Chela. | |
